The New UX Paradigm: AI Changed How We Build—Not Why UX Matters

Listen Instead

The biggest shift in UX isn’t that our craft has become less valuable. It’s that the economics of building software have changed.

AI has made building incredibly cheap and incredibly fast. A feature that once took six months can now be shipped in days. That’s exciting—but it also creates a new problem.

The question is no longer, “Can we build it?”

The question is, “Should we build it?”

UX used to save companies from wasting months building products nobody wanted. That value hasn’t disappeared. It’s evolved.

Today, our role is to ensure we’re solving the right problem before engineering solves it at lightning speed.

We can build Rome in a week.

But are we building the right Rome?

As UX professionals, our responsibility is no longer just usability. It’s product judgment. It’s customer insight. It’s validating assumptions. It’s making sure speed doesn’t replace strategy.

The companies that win won’t be the ones that build the fastest.

They’ll be the ones that build the right things first.
