Overview
A research study exploring how people capture and store their health and fitness data using smart watches and wearable devices. The goal was to understand user habits, mental models, and pain points around personal health data management.
The Challenge
Wearable technology generates enormous volumes of health data, but little is known about how everyday users actually engage with, interpret, and store that data. Understanding these behaviors was critical to designing better health tracking experiences.
Approach
Conducted qualitative user research including interviews, contextual observation, and diary studies with participants who actively use wearable fitness trackers. Data was synthesized into personas, journey maps, and key design recommendations.
Outcomes
Research surfaced clear patterns in how users interact with health data: most only checked data reactively rather than proactively. Key insights shaped design recommendations for clearer data visualization, smarter notification timing, and reduced cognitive load in fitness dashboards.
